Kelvin Chooi, founder of 筑壬 ZhuRen YiJing Consultancy

I'm Kelvin Chooi. I run 筑壬 — a practical Chinese metaphysics consultancy in Singapore working across BaZi, feng shui, YiJing divination, number selection and name analysis.

Before this I spent my career in multinational companies, in management, strategy and IT. That background is still how I work: I'm looking for the structure underneath a situation, and for the decision you can actually make on Monday morning.

2023

By most measures I was doing well. I had a track record, I was considered a strong performer, and I expected the next step to come.

It didn't. The promotion I'd been working toward didn't happen. A new manager arrived who I couldn't find a way to work with, and over the following months my confidence came apart in pieces. I did the obvious thing and changed companies — and found the same conditions waiting for me, only heavier.

It didn't stay at work. Things at home thinned out. The distance between my wife and me widened quietly, the way it does when neither person is doing anything obviously wrong. Ties with people I was close to loosened. And my health gave way underneath all of it — that stretch of my life is measured in hospital visits.

That's the part I don't skip when people ask why I do this. I wasn't researching a subject. I was trying to get out from under something.

What changed

After enough time looking outward for an answer, I decided to go and learn it myself. Not to consult someone else. To understand it.

I found a teacher in Singapore working in an orthodox lineage, and I started studying properly — BaZi, feng shui, YiJing divination. And I used myself as the first case. Not as an observer of the material, but as the person it had to work on.

Over the next stretch, things steadied. My health settled into something manageable. The relationships that had gone quiet started to come back. At work, I regained the standing I'd lost.

I'm careful about how I tell that part, because I'm not selling a guarantee. What I can say is that once I could see the structure I was operating inside — where my energy actually ran, which years were working with me and which weren't — I stopped making the same decisions and expecting a different result.

筑壬

means to build — constructing a life the way you'd construct anything solid, piece by piece.
is the heavenly stem of water: flowing wisdom, resilience. It's also the energy code sitting inside my own name.

筑壬 exists because I went through it. Everyone who books a consultation is somewhere in their own version of that — a decision that won't resolve, a pattern that keeps repeating, a stretch that feels harder than it should.

用易经导航你成长的方向。

That isn't a slogan. It's the reason the practice exists.

The method, plainly

I work from yin and yang, the five elements, and the eight trigrams. That's the foundation underneath everything I do — the BaZi readings, the feng shui audits, the number and name work.

I don't practise Xuan Kong Flying Stars, and I don't practise Qi Men Dun Jia. Both are legitimate systems with capable practitioners. They're simply not what I trained in, and I'd rather tell you that plainly than blur the lines to sound more complete.

If you've been to a consultation before, this is worth knowing up front — different schools reach different conclusions about the same house or the same chart. It's better to know which one you're getting.

A strategist's habits

Years in multinational management, strategy and IT taught me things this field doesn't usually teach.

  • Structure over anecdote. I want to see how the parts of a situation connect before offering a view on any single one.
  • Decisions, not descriptions. A reading that tells you what you're like is interesting. A reading that changes what you do next is useful. I'm aiming for the second.
  • Plain language. In corporate life, if you couldn't explain it to the room, it didn't get approved. I've kept that. You should leave a consultation understanding the reasoning, not just the conclusion.
  • No dependency. My job isn't to become someone you have to check with. It's to hand you enough understanding of your own structure that you need me less over time.

What to expect

  • Your chart gets studied, not matched. Roughly thirty thousand people are born in any given hour. If a reading could be produced by formula, all thirty thousand would be living the same life.
  • No fear. I'm not going to tell you something terrible is coming and then sell you the fix. If there's a difficult stretch ahead, you'll hear it as timing — and as something to plan around.
  • No shopping list. I've been on the receiving end of a consultation that ended with a set of objects to place around the house. I placed them. Nothing changed. You'll get reasoning and steps, not merchandise.
  • Honest about limits. There are things a chart shows clearly and things it doesn't. I'll tell you which is which.
